Women’s Basketball Rolls, 81-62, Over Dominican (NY)

Goldey-Beacom continued its red-hot play in yet another big win, exploding in the first quarter and cruising to an 81-62 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Dominican (NY) at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning dominated the first quarter with a 27-8 lead, shooting 54 percent (7-of-13) from the field, going 11-for-12 from the line and holding the Chargers to only 18 percent (3-of-17) from the floor.  Senior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) scored 10 points in the quarter with sophomore Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) adding eight.

Including the fourth quarter of last year's CACC quarterfinal victory, the Lightning had outscored the Chargers 46-13 over the last 20 minutes up until that point.

GBC made it stand in the fourth period, gaining an 18-13 edge on the scoreboard by shooting 73 percent (8-of-11) from the floor and holding Dominican to just 18 percent (4-of-22).  McGrogan, Jhordan Gardner (Burlington, NJ) and fellow sophomore Sarah Round (Northampton, England) scored four points apiece for the Lightning.

McGrogan closed with 24 points on 7-of-9 shooting and went 10-for-11 from the line, marking the eighth time this season she has gone off for at least 20.  Round scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting with Harrison getting 12 and seven rebounds for the Lightning, who shot 56 percent (31-of-55) from the field and have won seven of their last eight contests.

Korina Guerra had 22 points and 10 rebounds, Naabea-Janaan Assibey-Bonsu scored 13 points with Khay'la Latimer adding 10 for Dominican (11-13, 9-6), which shot 27 percent (20-of-75) from the field.

Goldey-Beacom (8-15, 8-7) is one game behind Jefferson (9-6) and Chestnut Hill (9-6) for third place in the CACC South Division.  Two of those teams will be on their way to the CACC Tournament.

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against Chestnut Hill for a 6:00 pm contest, which precedes the men's 8:00 pm game between the same schools.
