Softball Splits Two With Post

Goldey-Beacom received great performances all around in a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Post before it was handed a 3-2 loss in the nightcap.

Game one belonged to Middletown, DE sophomore Taylor Beres (6-8), who was perfect over the first three innings and took a no-hitter into the sixth.  She ended the contest with five strikeouts over seven innings, yielding just an unearned run and two hits.

GBC grabbed a 1-0 lead in the last of the first inning.  Sophomore Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, MD) led off with a single to left-center field and senior Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) followed with an RBI double.

The margin grew to 2-0 in the fifth.  Freshman Emily Lozowski (Marlton, NJ) reached on a two-out infield single, Lockwood singled up the middle and Davis added an infield single to load the bases.  Junior Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) brought home Lozowski with a bases-loaded walk.

The Eagles got one back in the sixth when an error following Leyri Rivera's single plated Jazmin Andrews.  But Beres retired the side, getting Cassidy Petrie on a groundout and Kasey Jusino on a popout.

Lockwood and Davis recorded two hits apiece for the Lightning (8-18, 6-8 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom in game two grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fourth.  Sophomore Ali Henriquez (Hoboken, NJ) lined a one-out single to right and junior Jess Lusk (Victoria, BC) followed by crushing a two-run homer to left for her first of the season.

Post made it 2-1 in the fifth when Petrie lined a two-out double to score Rianne Mayer.  It grabbed a 3-2 lead in the sixth on Mayer's bases-loaded walk and Andrews' RBI single.

Christina Loeffler (3-3) got the victory, striking out two and allowed two hits over three scoreless frames for the Eagles (10-13, 4-6).  Mayer and Demi Rivera amassed two hits apiece.

Lusk closed with two hits for the Lightning.

Goldey-Beacom is home Sunday against Millersville for a 1:00 pm doubleheader at the Jackson Complex.
