Softball Splits a Pair with Concordia



Goldey-Beacom splits a pair with Concordia winning game one 6-1 and falling in game two 5-4 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match up in New Rochelle, NY.
 
In game one, Goldey-Beacom struck first in the top of the first inning when junior Jess Lusk hit an RBI single to right center field.

Tori Tansley answered for Concordia in the bottom of the second when she scored off a wild pitch.
 
The Lightning went on to increase their lead in the top of the fourth inning. Kayla Vaillancourt (Edgewater, Md.) got caught stealing to second which allowed fellow freshman Noelle Gramlich (Bordentown, N.J.) to score. 
 
Jaeda Henriquez (Hoboken, N.J.) kept it rolling with an RBI single to right field and fellow sophomore Taylor Beres (Middletown, Del.) followed with an RBI single to center field to put the Lightning up 4-1 after the fourth inning.
 
Goldey-Beacom didn't stop there. Lusk hit an RBI single to left field in the top of the fifth sophomore and Ali Henriquez (Hoboken, N.J.) hit an RBI single up the middle in he top of the sixth.
 
Goldey-Beacom took game one 6-1 over Concordia.
 
Beres (8-15) had six strikeouts in seven innings for Goldey-Beacom.
 
Lusk went 3-for-4 with two RBI, junior Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, Md.) and Jaeda Henriquez both went 2-for-3 with one run each for the Lightning in game one.
 
In game two, both teams battled hard, but Concordia took the lead in the bottom of the third inning. 
 
Stephanie Ryder hit an RBI single through the left side. Ashdon Clark followed with a triple RBI double to center field to give Concordia a 4-0 lead.
 
The Lightning fought back in the top of the seventh inning when Emily Lozowski (Marlton, N.J.) hit an RBI single to center field, fellow freshman Lexi Thomas (Westville, N.J.) hit an RBI single down the left line, sophomore Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, Md.) hit an RBI single to right center field and senior Rachel Davis (Bethel, Del.) hit an RBI single to center field.
 
Goldey-Beacom now tied, 4-4, with Concordia going into the bottom of the seventh inning.
 
Concordia didn't crack under pressure after giving up four runs in the top of the seventh inning. Allison Betz hit an RBI single to centerfield to give Concordia a 5-4 lead to win game two.
 
Davis went 2-for-3 with one RBI and Lozowski went 1-for-2 with one run for the Lightning in game two.  Davis ends her career with 129 hits, good for 16th place in team history.

Goldey-Beacom will be back in action next year for the 2020 season.
