Goldey-Beacom began play in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a 74-53 win over Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, PA.
Goldey-Beacom took the early lead and increased it to a 14-point margin in the first half. The Lightning shot 47.2 percent (17-36) from the field with eight 3-pointers to own a 44-23 lead at half.
Sophomore Juran Ligonde (Boston, Mass.) had nine points and junior Kyle Elliot (Rahway, N.J.) had eight points in the first half for the Lightning. Gabe Perez and Scottie Spann both had eight points for Chestnut Hill in the first half.
In the second half, Chestnut Hill fought back for an even score of 30 for both teams in the second half. Despite the hard fight that Chestnut Hill put up, Goldey-Beacom took the game 74-53.
The Lightning shot 40.7 percent (11-27) from the field with three 3-pointers. Chestnut Hill shot 42.3 percent (11-26) from the field goal with two 3-pointers.
Elliot scored 14 points, freshman Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, N.J.) netted 13 and freshman Nahsir Morgan (Atlantic City, N.J.) added 11 for Goldey-Beacom.
Spann poured in 14 points, James Rider scored 11 and Perez contributed 10 for Chestnut Hill.
The Lightning take the court again on Saturday, December 14 vs. Southern New Hampshire at 1 PM in Wilmington.
