Women’s Basketball Battles to the End in 67-55 Loss vs. No. 25 Bentley



Goldey-Beacom played its second game in as many days against a nationally ranked foe and again showed many positive signs, this time in a 67-55 loss to 25th-ranked Bentley in Philadelphia, PA.
 
One day after facing No. 19 Le Moyne, Goldey-Beacom had a lead showed solid defense in the early going before Bentley found its groove.  The Falcons in the opening half shot 45 percent (13-of-29) from the floor and hit five 3-pointers to gain a 37-25 lead.
 
Kari Brekke netted 12 points in the half on 4-of-8 shooting for Bentley.
 
Goldey-Beacom in the fourth quarter displayed signs for optimism, outscoring Bentley 19-10 and shooting 64 percent (7-of-11) from the floor in addition to forcing seven turnovers.  Senior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) scored six points in the period and sophomore Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) added five.
 
McGrogan overall closed with 24 points to go with six rebounds and four 3-pointers.  She now moves into the school's top 10 list with 957 career points.
 
Harrison poured in nine points with Sarah Round (Northampton, England) and fellow sophomore Jhordan Gardner (Burlington, NJ) adding six apiece for the Lightning (0-2), who shot 36 percent (22-of-62) from the field.
 
Brekke netted 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting, Monica Viapiano had 10 and five rebounds with Julia Ford scoring eight points for the Falcons (1-1), who shot 44 percent (24-of-54) from the field.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday plays its home opener against the District of Columbia, beginning at 6:00 pm.
