Men's Basketball Falls to Southern Connecticut State 72-67



Goldey-Beacom had a strong start against Southern Connecticut State in its second game of the season, but was dealt a tough 72-67 loss in Bridgeport, CT.

In the first half, Goldey-Beacom led Southern Connecticut State 40-33 going into the half. The Lighting shot 58.6 percent (17-29) from the field and had five three pointers. Junior Marcellus Livingston (Linden, N.J.) had 19 points and freshman Jesiah West (Elizabeth, N.J.) had 10 for Goldey-Beacom.  

At the start of the second half, both teams continued to battle but the Lightning were able to increase their seven point lead to 15. The Owls, despite being down by 15, slowly closed the gap going on a nine point scoring streak to close the gap to a six-point game.

Goldey-Beacom kept its momentum and continued to keep the lead but Southern Connecticut State slowly closed the gap to take the lead with 5:32 remaining. Both teams fought back and forth taking the lead from each other.

The Owls hit two 3-pointers to take a six-point lead on the Lightning with 19 seconds remaining. With just seconds remaining Goldey-Beacom fought to regain the lead again but Southern Connecticut State went on to win 72-67.

The Lightning shot 32.1 percent (9-28) from the field in the second half and had two three-pointers. Southern Connecticut State shot 40.7 percent (11-27) from the field with three three-pointers in the second half. 

Livingston had 25 points, four rebounds and four assists. West had 16 points, six rebounds and two assists for the Lightning. Junior Tevin Service (Union, N.J.) had seven rebounds for Goldey-Beacom. 

C.J. Seaforth had 25 points , six rebounds and four assists and Isaiah Boissard had 16 points and six rebounds for the Owls. 

Goldey-Beacom hits the court Wednesday for its first home game of the season against Saint Thomas Aquinas at 8pm in Wilmington, DE.
