Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Dealt 79-74 Loss at Chestnut Hill

Goldey-Beacom tried its best to make a late comeback, but that fell short in a 79-74 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, PA.

Goldey-Beacom trailed 33-32 at halftime despite forcing eight turnovers.  Senior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) scored 11 points, junior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) poured in nine and freshman Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) hauled in nine rebounds.

The Griffins then found their touch in the third quarter, outscoring the Lightning 27-12 to open a 60-44 lead.  Lauren Crim went on a tear in the period with nine points and Cassie Sebold added five.

The Lightning looked out of it down 71-59 with 2:44 left when Shannon Glenn hit a layup for the Griffins.  But GBC poured in the next nine points to close to 71-68 with 1:06 remaining.  McGrogan netted four points in that time, ending it with a layup.

Glenn knocked down two free throws with 53 seconds left to give Chestnut Hill a 73-68 lead.  After an empty possession each way, Harrison's layup with 30 seconds to go moved the Lightning within 73-70.

Sebold then all but ended the game by herself.  She hit two free throws with 21 seconds left for a 75-70 contest, stole the inbounds pass after a time out and nailed two more from the stripe with 20 seconds to go for a seven-point contest.

McGrogan closed with 24 points, Harrison recorded 16 and 11 rebounds for her first double-doubles, Turner-Rush netted 17 points and freshman Sarah Round (Northampton, England) added 10 for the Lightning (9-11, 5-6 CACC).

Crim poured in 21 points, Glenn netted 16, Sebold scored 13 and Jaeda Wildgoose grabbed 12 rebounds for the Griffins (6-12, 4-6), who notched a 49-39 rebounding edge.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday visits Nyack for a 1:00 pm contest.  The men's game between the same schools follows at 3:00 pm.
