Softball Ends 2018 Season with Split at Chestnut Hill

Goldey-Beacom softball ended its 2018 campaign with a split at Chestnut Hill, 2-5 and 6-4.

After a 5-0 start, Chestnut Hill handled game one from the start. Marissa Maioran gave the Griffins their first three runs with a two-run RBI single and batted another runner in off a fielder's choice. Kaya Swanek added two more runs in the third inning with an RBI single.

Gabrielle Merryman (1-2) started for the Griffins, pitching 6 1/3 innings allowing six hits and two runs.

Alexa Calareso (0-9), the junior from Millville, NJ, pitched three innings and allowed three earned runs for the Lightning.

Starting off with six unanswered runs, game two swung in favor of the Lightning.

In the first inning, Rachel Davis (2-for-4), the junior from Bethel, DE, and Kylie Doyle (2-for-3), the senior from Tower City, PA, struck RBI singles putting the Lightning up, 2-0.

The Lightning tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning. Following a run from Jaeda Henriquez (freshman from Hoboken, NJ) scored on errors, Lauren Conway (senior from Hammonton, NJ) bunted for a single scoring Kelsey Brandle (2-for-3), the senior from Bethlehem, PA. Conway eventually rounded to home plate on errors committed by the Griffins.

A four-run fourth inning for the Griffins proved to be too late. Alessandra Messina played well for the Griffins going 3-for-3 from the plate.

Doyle (4-9) received the start for the Lightning pitching four innings and allowing no earned runs.

Taylor Beres, the freshman from Middletown, DE, threw some heat in the final three innings. She allowed two hits and struck out three batters in allowing no runs for her first save of the year.

Hunter Irvin (0-7) took the loss on the mound for the Griffins.
