Bryson Goes Out in Style With Women’s Hoops' Triumph at Wilmington

Senior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) in the final game of her legendary Goldey-Beacom career amassed 21 points and a season-best 20 rebounds, helping her unit to an 82-63 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Wilmington (DE) in Newark, DE.

Bryson was more than on her game by shooting 9-of-15 from the floor to go with five assists, four blocks and a steal over 31 minutes.

It capped a truly remarkable career in which she became the first player in school history to reach 1,000 career points, 1,000 career rebounds and 100 blocks.  The second team all-league pick from last season and third team selection from 2016 ends her career third in school history with 1,482 points, second with 1,071 rebounds, second with 604 field goals, third with 143 blocks and seventh with 272 free throws.

Bryson recorded the 45th double-double of her career and fell one rebound shy of her career best.

Goldey-Beacom began its solid play off the jump, leading 23-13 after the first quarter by shooting 59 percent (10-of-19) from the floor and gaining a 14-7 rebounding edge.  Bryson ended the period with seven points and six rebounds.

The Lightning owned a 44-30 halftime edge by again using strong shooting, hitting at a 51 percent clip (19-of-37).  The visitors also played solid defense led by freshman Alanna Speaks (Wilmington, DE) up top and Bryson down low, helping the unit gain a 26-15 rebounding edge.

Speaks scored 11 points in the half with Bryson adding nine and nine rebounds.

Speaks ended the contest with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting with four 3-pointers, senior Marisa Howard (Twinsburg, OH) poured in 11 points in her final contest and sophomore Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) netted 10 for the Lightning (9-19, 7-12 CACC), who shot 51 percent (33-of-65) from the floor.

Macy Robinson poured in 27 points on 11-of-19 shooting, Emma Matthews scored 16 points and Nyree Grant hauled in 11 rebounds for the Wildcats (6-22, 3-16).
