Women’s Basketball Rolls to 76-54 Triumph at Wilmington



Goldey-Beacom showed its scoring prowess in each of the first three quarters and notched its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win of the season, 76-54 at Wilmington (DE) in Newark, DE.
 
Goldey-Beacom in the first quarter shot 42 percent (8-of-19) from the floor and held Wilmington to only 25 percent (3-of-12) for a 20-13 lead.  Sophomore Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) scored five points in that span.
 
Speaks continued her solid play in the second quarter by scoring six points, helping the Lightning own a 21-12 edge for a 41-25 halftime lead.  Speaks closed the half with 11 points, senior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) scored nine and junior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) added eight.
 
Another key to the half was the Lightning going 8-for-8 from the foul line, including Speaks at 4-for-4, with the Wildcats shooting just 7-for-19.  Wilmington also shot just 28 percent (8-of-29) from the field.
 
The third quarter belonged to McGrogan, who poured in 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting that included two old-fashioned three-point plays.  Goldey-Beacom shot 57 percent (9-of-16) in the quarter to run its lead to 68-36.
 
McGrogan for the game had 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting and nine rebounds with Turner-Rush and Speaks getting 16 points and eight rebounds apiece.  Freshman Sarah Round (Northampton, England) netted 10 points for the Lightning (5-5, 1-1 CACC), who shot 40 percent (28-of-70) from the floor and went 13-for-13 from the line.

McGrogan also added five assists and now is 10th in school history with 165 career.
 
Nyree Grant, Jadyn Whitsitt and Jaelyn Durrett scored 10 points apiece for the Wildcats (0-9, 0-2), who shot just 32 percent (20-of-62) from the field and 11-for-23 from the line.
 
Wilmington also committed 20 turnovers, marking the fourth time in five games the Lightning have forced at least 20.
 
Goldey-Beacom does not return to action until Wednesday, December 19 against nationally ranked Jefferson for a 6:00 pm contest.
