Men’s Basketball Opens League Play With 72-46 Rout of Georgian Court



Goldey-Beacom poured in 17 consecutive points in the second half, turning a close game into what ended as a 72-46 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph over Georgian Court at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Lightning held a 35-31 just over four minutes into the second half before exploding on the game's signature spurt, opening a 52-31 cushion with 11:15 left.  Junior Dwayne Dixon (Newark, NJ) scored five points in that time for GBC, which shot 8-of-13 from the floor and forced Georgian Court to go 0-of-7.
 
The second half belonged to the Lightning, who gained a 41-20 edge on the scoreboard by shooting 43 percent (17-of-40) from the field, posted a 26-18 rebounding edge and a 24-8 advantage on points in the paint.  Dixon poured in 10 points with freshman Giovanni Jones (Norfolk, VA) adding eight.
 
Senior Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA) overall poured in 15 points, Dixon had 14 and eight rebounds, senior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) scored 13 points and Jones added 10 for the Lightning.
 
Goldey-Beacom (2-5, 1-0 CACC), which forced 23 turnovers to move to 11-0 against Georgian Court, has seen its opponents commit at least 20 in all seven games this season.
 
Caleb Bowser scored 14 points with Matt Ringel adding 12 and 11 rebounds for the Lions (1-8, 0-1), who shot 35 percent (19-of-55) from the floor and 5-of-16 from three-point range.
 
Goldey-Beacom is on the road Saturday to visit Wilmington (DE) for a 3:00 pm contest.  The women's game between the same schools is at 1:00 pm, also in Newark, DE.
