Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Falls, 62-52, to New Haven

Goldey-Beacom valiantly tried to comeback from a 21-point deficit, only to be handed a 62-52 loss by New Haven at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

New Haven in the second quarter looked in total control, outscoring Goldey-Beacom 21-7 by shooting 53 percent (9-of-17) from the floor and limiting the home side to only 25 percent (3-of-12).  Katia Oge and Brie Pergola netted six points apiece in that time with Luzdali Ocasio adding five.

Things looked over when the Chargers held their biggest lead, 58-37, with 4:39 remaining.  But the Lightning rattled off the next 15 points in just over three minutes to close to 58-52 with 49 seconds left.  Freshman Sarah Round (Northampton, England) scored 10 points in that span, canning a jumper to end the surge.

GBC then got another break when Round forced Alexandria Kerr into a turnover.  The Lightning looked to shrink the margin further, but Round missed a jumper and Ocasio hauled in the rebound.

Pergola canned two free throws with 30 seconds left to ice the contest at 60-52.

Round closed with 17 points, four rebounds and four 3-pointers for the Lightning (5-7).  Junior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) netted 14 points with senior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) adding 10.

Turner-Rush now stands at 765 career points, moving her into 13th place in team history.

Oge poured in 14 points, Pergola netted 13, Kerr scored 12 and Micah Wormack added 10 for the Chargers (9-4), who shot 43 percent (24-of-56) from the field and won despite committing 19 turnovers.

Goldey-Beacom returns home Wednesday to face Chestnut Hill at 6:00 pm, followed by the men's 8:00 pm contest between the same schools.
