Women’s Basketball Handed 66-48 Setback at Molloy



Goldey-Beacom let an early lead get away and was dealt its first loss of the season, 66-48 at Molloy in Rockville Centre, NY.
 
Molloy in the second quarter outscored Goldey-Beacom 18-8, shooting 47 percent (7-of-15) from the field and holding the visitors to just 20 percent (2-of-10) for a 36-27 halftime lead.  Tyra Harrison scored six points in the second stanza for the Lions.
 
Junior Alexis Stubblefield (Woodbridge, VA) scored nine points in the opening half for the Lightning on 3-of-3 shooting, all three-pointers.  Her play helped GBC open a 16-11 lead late in the first period.
 
The Lions in the third quarter gained a 14-9 measure on the scoreboard, thanks to shooting 46 percent (5-of-11) from the floor and creating seven turnovers for a 50-36 lead.  Melody Prichard netted eight points in the period.
 
Sarah Round (Northampton, England), the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, along with freshman Reetta Saaski (Espoo, Finland) scored 11 points for the Lightning (2-1).  Stubblefield netted 10 points with senior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) adding eight rebounds for GBC, which shot 33 percent (16-of-48) from the floor.
 
Kathryn Gibson scored 14 points with four 3-pointers, Prichard netted 12 points with Ihnacinse Grady adding nine, six assists and five steals for the Lions (2-1).
 
Goldey-Beacom hits the road Tuesday to visit Millersville.  Game time is 6:00 pm.
