Women’s Basketball's Season Ends With Loss to Dominican in CACC Tournament

Goldey-Beacom did everything it could in a tightly contested game, but it gave up a late run and was dealt a 63-59 loss by Dominican (NY) in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinals at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

GBC cut Dominican's lead to 49-47 with 3:08 left when junior Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) hit a jumper.  It was the closest the home team got from that point forward in a contest which no one had more than a five point lead at that juncture.

Lisa Bouffard then continued her stellar play for the Chargers by canning a jumper with 2:43 remaining for a 51-47 contest.  Junior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) then hit a layup for GBC to make it 51-49 before Dominican's Kyla Ramseur scored twice from the stripe with 1:59 to play for a four-point contest.

A Lightning turnover led to Bouffard hitting two free throws with 1:43 to go for a 55-49 margin.  After Bruno and Ramseur each made a free throw, Bouffard converted a huge layup with 41 seconds to go for a 58-50 contest.

Bouffard made a free throw with 41 seconds to go for a nine-point game before GBC went on a 9-3 run to close to 62-59 with 17 seconds left.  Bruno and freshman Mara Poch (Girona, Spain) each hit a 3-pointer in that span.

Stephani Alston was fouled for the Chargers and, after missing the first free throw, made the second for a 63-59 game with 15 seconds remaining.

Bruno closed with 20 points that included 14 in the second half, Bryson had 13 and 14 rebounds for her 15th double-double of the season and sophomore Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) added 10 points for the Lightning (17-12), who shot 31 percent (21-of-67) from the field.

Bouffard was unstoppable with 29 points on 12-of-19 shooting that included 19 points in the second half and also had 11 rebounds.  Rebecca Rabeiro netted 11 for the Chargers (11-18), who shot 48 percent (12-of-25) from the floor in the second half and 42 percent (22-of-53) overall.

Goldey-Beacom was appearing in the CACC Tournament for the seventh time in the last eight seasons and was hosting a conference tournament game for the first time since 2013.
