Women’s Basketball Dealt 69-63 Loss at New Haven

In a contest which neither team led by more than six points, Goldey-Beacom did its best to come through down the stretch but was handed a 69-63 loss at New Haven in West Haven, CT.

GBC closed to 61-59 with 1:48 left on two free throws from senior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) before Alexandria Kerr's layup with 1:07 to go gave New Haven a four-point cushion.

Sophomore Nina Bartlette (Winthrop, MA) hit a layup for the Lightning with 47 seconds to play for a 63-61 game, but Kerr's jumper with 32 seconds to go made it a four-point contest.

Bryson then missed two free throws before the Chargers' Khayla Trowell hit 1-of-2 from the stripe for a 66-61 game with 26 seconds to go.  Bryson's layup with 21 seconds left cut the deficit to 66-63, but Kerr's two free throws with 16 seconds to play made it a five-point game.

Bryson poured in a season-best 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting with six rebounds to help her side shoot 45 percent (26-of-58) from the floor.  Senior Margherita Giubilei (Cesena, Italy) netted a season-high 10 points to go with five rebounds and freshman Alanna Speaks (Wilmington, DE) added nine a personal-best nine points for the Lightning (1-5).

Kerr could not be stopped with 24 points and went 11-for-16 from the line.  Brie Pergola scored 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting for the Chargers (3-2), who shot 47 percent (15-of-32) from the floor in the second half and 37 percent (25-of-68) overall.
