Women’s Basketball Dealt 58-51 Loss by Molloy



Goldey-Beacom played tough in its home opener, but was handed a 58-51 loss by Molloy at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
Gabriella Aspuru hit twice from the line to give Molloy a 54-46 lead with 1:18 left before Lightning sophomore Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) made a layup 13 seconds later for a six-point game.
 
Following a turnover, senior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) hit twice from the stripe with 56 seconds left for a 54-50 game.  The Lions (2-2) then missed their next four free throw attempts and the Lightning got the ball back looking to do more damage.
 
Bryson was fouled in the post and hit once from the line for a 54-51 game with 20 seconds remaining.  GBC (1-3) fouled right away and Kathryn Gibson made two free throws with 16 seconds to play for a five-point game.  After sophomore Ruth Fernandez (Madrid, Spain) missed a jumper for the Lightning, Gibson hit two more free throws with 8.9 seconds left for the final.
 
Bryson scored 15 points to go with eight rebounds and four field goals.  This gives Bryson 461 baskets, moving her into fifth place on the school's career list.
 
McGrogan had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Lightning, who shot 34 percent (18-of-53) from the floor.
 
Asputu had 15 points and nine rebounds, Marthe Guirand recorded 10 and nine with Gibson getting 10 points for the Lions, who shot 38 percent (21-of-56) from the floor.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday visits 10th-ranked California (PA) at 5:30 pm.
