Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Stays Red Hot With 84-53 Rout at Felician

Goldey-Beacom continued to make a statement, putting forth a dominant effort from start to finish in an 84-53 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rout at Felician in Rutherford, NJ.

Goldey-Beacom (6-10, 4-3 CACC) went on a tear in the first half, opening a 39-22 halftime lead that included it scoring the stanza's final nine points over two minutes.  Junior Shakeem Wilson (Brooklyn, NY) made two 3-pointers in that final push, including the last right before the buzzer.

Wilson scored 11 points in the half on 4-of-7 shooting, junior Elijah Tillman (Garnerville, NY) had eight and five rebounds with freshman Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ), the reigning CACC Rookie of the Week, adding seven points and five assists.  GBC shot 54 percent (14-of-26) from the field in that span and Felician was limited to just 36 percent (8-of-22).

By the time the second half was in full gear, the rout was on.  The Lightning used an 18-7 run over 4 1/2 minutes to grab a 69-38 lead with 9:48 to play.  Taite still could not be stopped, netting eight points in that span on 3-of-3 shooting.

Taite scored 20 points – two shy of his season best – on 7-of-10 shooting with six rebounds, six assists and four steals over 37 minutes.  Tillman netted 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting with six rebounds and Wilson also scored 14 points for GBC, which shot 52 percent (33-of-63) from the floor and owned a 39-26 rebounding edge.

C.J. Mwila scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting for the Golden Falcons (4-9, 2-5), who only shot 40 percent (19-of-48) from the field and committed 20 turnovers.

GBC, which notched its 199th victory since the program's re-instatement in 1998-99, has won five of its last eight games with two of its losses coming by a combined five points.

It easily was the Lightning's most lopsided victory in the series.  Their previous high was a 10-point triumph in 2010 and 2014, both in Rutherford.

Goldey-Beacom is back on the road Saturday at Post as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The men's game starts at 3:00 pm, preceded by the women's 1:00 pm contest.
