Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Leaves Wilmington (DE) With 80-74 Win

Goldey-Beacom fought back from a double-digit deficit and took the lead late for an 80-74 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Wilmington (DE) in Newark, DE.

Down 10 points midway through the first half, the Lightning took the lead for good at 68-65 when senior Jarrel Lane (Rahway, NJ) knocked down a huge 3-pointer with 4:51 remaining.  After Drew Johnson's layup for the Wildcats, Lane hit two free throws and junior Khalil Keel (Philadelphia, PA) nailed a jumper for a 72-67 game with 2:47 left.

The lead stayed at five when Wilmington's Tyaire Ponzo-Meek canned a big 3-pointer to make it 76-74 with 68 seconds remaining.  After junior Sameen Swint (Sicklerville, NJ) missed a jumper for GBC and Omari Dill-Pettiford corralled the rebound, the Wildcats looked to creep closer.  But great defense for the Lightning saw Ponzo-Meek miss a 10-foot jumper and junior Elijah Tillman (Garnerville, NY) get the rebound for the visitors.

After GBC freshman Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) missed the front end of a one-and-one with 22 seconds left, junior Shakeem Wilson (Brooklyn, NY) hauled in a massive rebound for the Lightning.  He was fouled by Paul Medlin and hit twice from the line with 19 seconds left for a 78-74 contest that all but ended things.

Wilson poured in 20 points to give him at least that total for the fourth time this season, grabbed seven rebounds and shot 6-of-9 from the floor to go with hitting all six free throw attempts.  He presently is sixth in the CACC with 16.6 points per game and 16th by shooting 74 percent (74-for-100) from the line.

Tillman had 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting with nine rebounds, Swint scored 14 points and Keel netted 13 off the bench on 6-of-8 shooting for the Lightning (4-9, 3-3 CACC), who sit fourth in the CACC South Division.

Brian Adkins scored 21 points, Ponzo-Meeks had 17 and eight rebounds, Johnson netted 16 points and Dill-Pettiford added 14 and six for the Wildcats (4-8, 0-5).

Goldey-Beacom is off until Thursday, December 31, when it hosts Lincoln (PA) at 3:00 pm.
