Goldey-Beacom's men's basketball team has been selected to end fifth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's highly competitive South Division based on a vote by the league's coaches.

The Lightning have the unenviable task of playing in the division which last season produced all four semifinalists in the conference tournament.  Philadelphia University won the crown on its home court by upending Wilmington (DE).

One of the players expected to play a big role for GBC is junior Sameen Swint (Sicklerville, NJ).  He returns after closing fourth on the squad last season with 7.9 points per game, 33rd in the league with 1.0 three-pointers made per contest and averaged 2.5 rebounds over 24 games.

Junior Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (New Castle, DE) gives the Lightning solid play at guard, ending last season averaging 6.1 points and 2.1 assists per contest.  Sophomore Daniel Cooper (Homestead, FL) provides a great deal of explosiveness as he closed last season fourth on the squad with a .428 shooting percentage to go with 6.0 points per game.

The squad only needs seven victories to reach 200 since the program's re-instatement in 1998-99.

Holy Family was picked to win the South, obtaining nine first-place votes.  Bloomfield got six first-place votes as the North favorite.

Goldey-Beacom opens its season November 14 at home against New York Tech, starting at 3:00 pm.
