Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Dealt 79-64 Loss by Arkansas-Fort Smith

Goldey-Beacom fell behind by double figures late in the first half to Arkansas-Fort Smith and could not recover in a 79-64 loss at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lions went on an 18-6 run in just under six minutes to turn a tie game into a 30-18 lead with 3:50 left in the first half.  Seth Youngblood scored eight points as part of UAFS shooting 7-of-13 from the floor in that spurt.

Youngblood and Cooper each scored 12 points in the first half for the Lions (4-1), who shot 44 percent (14-of-32) from the floor and canned five 3-pointers.

A Lightning comeback was not in the cards as the Lions opened the second half on a 10-4 to seize a 45-28 cushion just 3 1/2 minutes in.  Cooper was just getting warmed up, scoring eight of his 15 second-half points in that span.

Cooper had himself a night, scoring 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting with five 3-pointers to help UAFS shoot 49 percent (28-of-57) overall and hit 12 times from beyond the arc.  Youngblood scored 22 points, Kenny Martin grabbed 10 rebounds and DaVaunta Thomas dished seven assists.

Freshman Corey Taite (Parlin, NJ) netted 14 points off the bench with junior Elijah Tillman (Garnersville, NY) adding 12 and a team-season-high 17 rebounds for GBC.  It was Tillman's second double-double in as many contests.

Shakeem Wilson (Brooklyn, NY) scored 12 points and fellow junior Sameen Swint (Sicklerville, NJ) added 11 for the Lightning (0-5).

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Millersville, starting at 1:00 pm.
