Goldey-Beacom unbelievable almost came back from a 13-point deficit in the final minute, only to be handed a 66-62 exhibition loss to Division I Morgan State in Baltimore, MD.

GBC already has proven it can hang with the big clubs, playing just five days after it held a 15-point second-half lead in a tough setback at Division I Coppin State.  Things didn't look so go today when the Bears scored nine straight points to open a 57-44 lead with 4:41 left.  Clive Vaughan scored five points in that burst, ending it on a 3-pointer.

The margin was 63-50 when the Lightning began their comeback.  Junior Shakeem Wilson (Brooklyn, NY), named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll, hit a layup with 50 seconds left.   After Donte Pretlow missed the front end of a one-and-one, freshman Corey Taite (Parlin, NJ) made a layup with 46 seconds remaining for a 63-54 contest.

After Pretlow missed twice more from the stripe, senior Jarrel Lane (Rahway, NJ) canned a three-pointer with 34 seconds remaining for a 63-57 deficit.  Pretlow again was on the spot when he committed an offensive foul and GBC had a chance to tie, but junior Sameen Swint (Sicklerville, NJ) misfired on a 3-pointer.

Martez Cameron took his turn by missing two free throws for Morgan State, but Phillip Carr grabbed an offensive rebound on the second miss.  Carr then showed his teammates how it was done, converting two free throws with 14 seconds left for a 65-60 game.

Taite drilled a three-pointer with eight seconds to play for a 65-62 deficit before Carr hit once from the line with two seconds left to end it.

Wilson and sophomore Daniel Cooper (Miami, FL) scored 13 points apiece with junior Elijah Tillman (Garnersville, NY) adding 10 for the Lightning, who shot 41 percent (25-of-61) from the floor and hit nine 3-pointers.

Carr ended with 14 points and 17 rebounds, Andre Horne scored 15 points and Tyler Streeter added 12 for the Bears.

Goldey-Beacom is home Wednesday against Arkansas-Fort Smith, beginning at 7:00 pm.
