Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Battles Hard in 79-72 Setback to LIU Post

An injury-plagued Goldey-Beacom squad fought to the end with a solid unit in LIU Post and was dealt a tough 79-72 in the Delaware Express Tip-Off Invitational in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning trailed by as many as 10 points early in the second half and by 57-50 with 8:58 left.  But the home side scored the next eight points, capped on a short jumper from junior Elijah Tillman (Garnersville, NY), for a 58-57 lead with 7:07 remaining.

The game was closely contested most of the remainder and had even more excitement when freshman Corey Taite (Parlin, NJ) canned a 3-pointer with 2:52 to play, bringing GBC within 69-68.

LIU Post did not let that momentum last as Tournament Most Valuable Player Jared Hall took matters into his own hands.  He got the ball in the right corner, drilled a 3-pointer as he was fouled and converted the four-point play with 2:33 left for a 72-68 contest.

Hall hit two more free throws with 2:13 to play for a 75-68 game to all but end things.

Hall closed with 26 points on 8-of-16 shooting with six steals and five rebounds.  He finished the tournament with 34 points and seven rebounds over two contests.

Greg Dotson, also named to the all-tournament team, had 16 points and 10 rebounds with Bryant Webb adding 11 points for the Pioneers (2-0), the only undefeated team in the classic-format field.

Junior Shakeem Wilson (Brooklyn, NY) made the all-tournament team for GBC, ending with 17 points to give him 35 over the weekend.  Taite scored 17 points, senior Jarrel Lane (Roselle, NJ) netted 14 and sophomore Daniel Cooper (Homestead, FL) added 10 rebounds for the Lightning (0-2).

Also making the all-tournament were Jon Feiler and Jerrel Green from New York Tech as well as Sho Da-Silva from University of the Sciences.

USciences won the neutral-site game, 73-71 over New York Tech.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Wednesday for an exhibition game at Division I Coppin State, starting at noon in Baltimore, MD.
