Women’s Basketball on Cruise Control With a 83-50 Victory Over Post

Goldey-Beacom raced to a 23-point halftime lead and was never headed, cruising to its fourth win in five outings with an 83-50 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rout of Post at the Jones Center.

The Lightning had things under control in the first half, rolling to a 43-20 halftime lead by shooting 58 percent (19-of-33) from the field, 4-of-8 from three-point range and owning a commanding 23-14 rebounding edge.  Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) scored 12 points in the half on 5-of-8 shooting and fellow freshman Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) had 10 and six rebounds.

Bryson overall had 20 points on 10-of-16 shooting and hauled in 14 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.  Bruno recorded 20 points and eight assists, senior Lillian Chukwueze (Cherry Hill, NJ) had 20 points and eight rebounds with freshman Reighly Melochick (Pottsville, PA) scoring 10 points off the bench.

Bruno now has 96 assists this season, which moved her up to the fourth-best single-season total in school history.

Lexus Childs-Harris had 12 points and nine rebounds with Nicole Sheloski adding 10 points for the Eagles (5-16, 5-7 CACC).

The Lightning ended shooting 51 percent (36-of-71) from the field and 7-of-14 from three-point range to go with a 54-27 rebounding advantage.  The Eagles only hit 29 percent (17-of-58) for the game and 4-of-21 from beyond the arc.

Goldey-Beacom (9-12, 8-4) moved within one game of Holy Family (9-3) for third place in the CACC South Division and two games in the loss column behind Philadelphia U. (8-2) for second.  Its magic number for clinching a spot in the CACC Tournament shrunk to three.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Monday for a re-scheduled CACC game at Georgian Court.  The contest begins at 6:00 pm, which precedes the men's 8:00 pm game in Lakewood, NJ.
