Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Falls, 56-53, at Concordia (NY)

Coming off a double-overtime victory Wednesday, Goldey-Beacom's attempt at a second-straight triumph came up just short in a 56-53 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Concordia (NY) in Bronxville, NY.

Senior Chris Gebhart (Cherry Hill, NJ) took matters into his own hands for GBC, scoring every point during his team's 6-2 run to give the visitors a 46-40 lead with 7:17 left.

But the Lightning then went on a cold spell, allowing 11 straight points to fall into a 51-46 hole with 1:56 to play.  Andrew Peacock and Justyn Gardner each scored four points in that run.

Senior Kyle Steinbergin (Englewood, NJ) finally ended the drought with 1:38 remaining on a jumper to pull the Lightning within 51-48.  But the Clippers fought back and it was Peacock again, canning a 3-pointer with 1:26 left for a 54-48 margin.

Steinbergin drilled a 3-pointer of his own with 1:18 to play for a 54-51 contest and then came up with a steal to give the Lightning a chance to tie or take the lead.  But after junior Domineek Owens (Philadelphia, PA) missed a layup, Gebhart could not hit the follow up and Peacock grabbed the rebound.

The latter hit twice from the line with 14 seconds left for a 56-51 margin.

Gebhart had 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting with 10 rebounds along with four blocks.  Steinbergin amassed 14 points off the bench and sophomore Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (New Castle, DE) hauled in eight rebounds for the Lightning (3-4, 1-1 CACC), who ended with a 46-33 rebounding edge.

Peacock had a day with 17 points and Gardner added 16 for the Clippers (3-6, 1-2).

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday to entertain U. of the Sciences, beginning at 8:00 pm.
