Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Chukwueze’s Clutch Shots Lift Women’s Basketball to 90-87 Victory Over Lincoln (PA)

Senior Lillian Chukwueze (Cherry Hill, NJ) scored five huge points down the stretch and Goldey-Beacom came up clutch at the free throw line to secure a 90-87 victory over Lincoln (PA) at the Joseph West Jones Center.

Things looked ominous for the Lightning when Zephrah Pam hit two free throws with 3:54 left to put the Lady Lions up 80-71.  But Goldey-Beacom began to chip away, getting consecutive layups from freshmen Mikila Stefanski (Hammonton, NJ) and Reighly Melochick (Pottsville, PA) to close to 80-75 with 3:02 remaining.

Lincoln held an 82-76 cushion before freshman Lexi Bruno (Millville, NJ) hit a free throw and then followed up her own missed to make it 82-79 with 2:29 to play.  After Teira Pendelton missed a jumper, GBC came the other way and Chukwueze canned an open 3-pointer from the left wing with 1:55 remaining for an 82-82 tie.

Pendelton missed another jumper and that gave GBC the chance for its first lead in roughly 16 minutes.  The home team came through as Bruno got the ball up top and threw a great lob pass to freshman Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA), whose layup made it 84-82 with 66 seconds left.

De'Jah Taylor leveled the contest for the Lady Lions by rebounding Pendleton's missed layup and scoring with 47 seconds to go for an 84-84 tie.

Chukwueze was not fazed by this and after driving to the goal, hit twice from the line with 28 seconds to play for an 86-84 Goldey-Beacom margin.  Jailen Murphy then missed a potential-tying layup and senior Taylor Leonard (Lake Katrine, NY) canned two free throws with seven seconds left for an 88-84 contest.

GBC then had to survive a wild finish.  Amani Clark banked in a 3-pointer with 0.9 seconds to go for an 88-87 contest and Bruno then hit a pair from the line with 0.3 seconds left for the final.

Bruno notched the first double-double of her collegiate career, getting 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting, 10 assists and seven rebounds.  Chukwueze, named today to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll, contributed 18 points and eight rebounds.  Stefanski netted 14 points and Melochick added 12.

Bryson, tabbed CACC Rookie of the Week, ended with nine points over 21 minutes in helping GBC (3-8) to its third win in the last five outings.

The Lightning canned a season-best 11 three-pointers and shot 50 percent (29-of-58) from the field that included 54 percent (14-of-26) in the second half.  Stefanski and Melochick each hit a trio of 3-pointers.

Clark scored 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting, Pam had 13 and eight rebounds with Taylor and Courtney Smith adding 11 points for the Lady Lions (6-2).

Goldey-Beacom has a quick turnaround before returning to play in the CACC on Wednesday at Chestnut Hill, starting at 6:00 pm in Philadelphia.
