Box Score Wilmington, Del.- The Lightning women's basketball team fell to 0-5 on the season as they were defeated by the University of New Haven, 80-72, in non-conference at the Jones Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Lightning were led by freshman guard
Lexi Bruno (Millville Senior H.S./ Millville N.J.), who tallied 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and was 4-of-8 from the free throw line. The Lightning put three other scorers in double figures as freshman guard
Mikila Stefanski (Cedar Creek H.S./ Hammonton, N.J.) scored set a new career best with 17 points,
Reighly Melochick (Minersville Area H.S./ Pottsville, Pa.) also netted a career high with 14 points, and sophomore guard
Jasmyne Lewis scored 10 points and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
The Chargers we lead by Aquillin Hayes as she matched Bruno's high of 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor. The Chargers led by as many as 17 points early in the second half. The Lightning were as close as four points as Stefanski knocked down two free throw attempts with 1:23 left to play but the Chargers sealed the victory by closing the game out on a 6-2 run.
The Lightning will look to pick up their first win of the season when they travel to Albany, N.Y. on Monday evening as they face off against College of Saint Rose. Game time is set for 6:00 PM.
