Men's Basketball Prepares for National Spotlight at Philadelphia University

Lightning and Rams to Square Off on CBS Sports Network

The Lightning will try to win their fourth straight game on Saturday at Philadelphia University.

WILMINGTON, Del. – Playing in the first nationally-televised game in school history, the Goldey-Beacom College men's basketball team will look to extend its win streak to four straight games by traveling to Philadelphia University for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division match-up against Philadelphia University on Saturday afternoon.

Opening tip-off between the Lightning and the Rams is slated for 3 p.m.

GAME NOTES
- Now 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the CACC, the Lightning have been idle since earning a 92-79 victory over Concordia College last Saturday afternoon at the Joseph West Jones College Center ... The Lightning erupted for 52 points in the second half while shooting nearly 72 per cent from the field to erase a 43-40 deficit at the intermission.

- Freshman guard Donte McGill led the Lightning to the victory over Concordia on Saturday afternoon ... He scored a season-high 19 points, including 16 in the second half ... During the second half, the Newark, Del. native made all six of his field goal attempts and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

- The 92 points scored by the Lightning are the most since they tallied 99 points in an overtime loss against Chestnut Hill College on Jan. 15, 2013 ... Since the start of the 2012-13 season, the Lightning have eclipsed the 90-point mark three times, including a 110-point performance against Puerto Rico-Mayaquez on Nov. 24, 2012.

- The Lightning have won three consecutive games for the first time since a five-game win streak from Feb. 6, 2012 to Feb. 18, 2012 ... It is also the first time the Lightning have had a winning record since the end of the 2011-12 season when they had an 18-11 record.

- After averaging just 56.3 points per game in their first four outings, the Lightning have averaged 83.7 points during their current three-game win streak ... McGill is averaging 13.7 points per game for the Lightning during the win streak and has made 17 of 19 free throws (.895).

- Junior guard Jarrel Lane enters Saturday's game ranked fifth in the CACC with a 2.8 assist-to-turnover ratio, compiling 39 assists with 14 turnovers ... He has recorded at least six assists in five of the Lightning's seven games, including a season-high seven assists in an 85-73 win over Georgian Court on Nov. 26.

- Entering Saturday's game against the Rams, the Lightning lead the CACC by converting 78.9 per cent of their free throw attempts ... Over the last three games, Goldey-Beacom has made 56 of 73 free throws (.767), including a season-high 24 made free throws and 29 attempts against Concordia.

- The Lightning also lead the CACC by averaging just 9.4 turnovers per game ... They have committed fewer than 10 turnovers in five of their first seven games and are 3-2 in those games.

- Led by junior center Chris Gebhart, the Lightning rank second in the CACC by averaging 5.3 blocked shots per game ... Gebhart, who ranks 10th in the CACC with a .533 field goal percentage, is fourth in the conference with 16 blocks through seven games ... He had five blocked shots in the Lightning's wins over Millersville and Georgian Court.

- Gebhart is also the Lightning's leading rebounder with a 6.6 average ... He matched a season high with eight rebounds in the victory over Concordia last Saturday while scoring a season-high 17 points.

- Saturday's game will mark the 18th meeting between the Lightning and the Rams ... Philadelphia University leads the series by an 11-6 margin and has split the last eight meetings against Goldey-Beacom ... However, the Rams are 8-1 all-time at home in the series, including a 74-53 victory on Jan. 23, 2013.

- Goldey-Beacom Coach Chuck Hammond will be facing his alma mater when the Lightning travels to Philadelphia University on Saturday afternoon ... A 1999 graduate of Philadelphia University, Hammond served as an assistant coach for Rams Coach Herb Magee.

- The Lightning will return home on Wednesday, Dec. 18 to host Chestnut Hill College in a CACC South Division contest ... It will be the second game of a doubleheader and begin at approximately 8 p.m.
