PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Junior forward Garret Kerr (Middle Township H.S./Moorestown, N.J.) made 11 of 20 shots from the floor and tallied a game-high 26 points as the University of the Sciences (1-0, 1-0) opened its 2013-14 season with a 67-52 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Goldey-Beacom College (1-2, 0-1) at Bobby Morgan Arena on Tuesday evening.

The reigning CACC Player of the Year, Kerr added a game-high 21 rebounds as the Devils handed the Lightning their second straight loss.

Led by 12 points from Kerr, the Devils overcame a slow start in the first half to take a 21-18 lead into the intermission. The Lightning led by a 10-5 margin after a three-point field goal by junior guard Jarrel Lane (St. Patrick H.S./Rahway, N.J.) with 17:10 left in the period before the Devils scored 16 of the next 24 points to gain the advantage.

The Lightning regained the lead with 18:03 left in the second half on a jumper from junior center Chris Gebhart (Cherry Hill West H.S./Cherry Hill, N.J.) before the Devils went on a 14-4 run to take a commanding 37-28 lead with 12:24 left on a pair of free throws by Kerr.

A lay-up from freshman guard Donte McGill (Mont Clare Academy/Bear, Del.) narrowed the gap to 37-30, but the Lightning were unable to get any closer.

While Kerr led the Devils to the victory, sophomore guard Sho DaSilva (Bishop Eustace H.S./Moorestown, N.J.) added 17 points with five rebounds. He made 5 of 14 shots from the floor and 7 of 11 free throw attempts.

Gebhart scored a team-high 12 points for the Lightning in the loss while contributing seven rebounds. Meanwhile, junior guard Kyle Steinbergin (Teaneck H.S./Englewood, N.J.) tallied 11 points with three steals.
