Despite game highs of 16 points and 12 rebounds by junior captain
Devonne Richardson, Goldey-Beacom College fell to Caldwell College, 67-56 at the Newman Center to see its six-game win streak come to an end. The Lightning never enjoyed the lead in this one, falling behind by as much as 30-16 before clawing within 34-24 by halftime. A 16-7 upswing when play resumed expanded the gap to 50-31 after a jump shot by Willeen Capehart (12 points), but Goldey answered with 11 unanswered points, capped by a Richardson hoop, to close within 50-42 with 7:20 to go. That's as close as the visitors would get, however, as the Cougars converted 12 of 16 foul shots down the stretch to salt it away, improving to 14-9 overall, and 11-5 in CACC play. Junior forwards
Irene Hudson (12 points) and
Akilah Sewell (10 points, 12 rebounds, three blocked shots) played well in defeat for the Lightning, which struggled from the floor (33%, including 2-of-18 from 3-point range) and attempted only a third as many free throws (6-9 compared to 17-27 for CC). Torey Jones paced Caldwell with 14 points. At 16-7 overall and 11-5 in conference action, third-place Goldey-Beacom will next take on Chestnut Hill College on Wednesday night at the Joseph West Jones Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
