Opening Tip-Off
Looking to open its season on a positive note, the Goldey-Beacom College men's basketball team will start a three-game road trip this weekend by participating in the University of Bridgeport Men's Basketball Classic. After opening the regular season on Saturday evening against Southern Connecticut State, the Lightning will face Adelphi on Sunday afternoon. Live stats for both of the Lightning's games this weekend will be available via Bridgeport's official website, www.ubknights.com.

A Look Back at Last Year
Led by guards Marcus Porter and A.J. Picard, the Lightning reached the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Game for the third consecutive season and posted an 18-11 record. Porter, a second team All-CACC selection, was the Lightning's leading scorer as a freshman with a 16.7 average while Picard earned honorable mention All-CACC notice after scoring 13.7 points per game. The Lightning have won the CACC's South Division regular season title in each of the last two seasons while reaching the CACC playoffs in each of the last six seasons.

Scouting Southern Connecticut State
The Owls are coming off a 14-13 season last year that included winning six of their last seven regular season games to earn a berth in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. Led by junior guard Greg Langston, the Owls return six letter winners from last year's team. An all-conference selection as a sophomore, Langston was the Owls' leading scorer by averaging 16.7 points per game; he also made 46.2 per cent of his field goal attempts and was tied for the team lead with 41 steals. Meanwhile, Trevon Hamlet was the second-leading scorer on the Southern Connecticut State squad with a 16.3 average while leading the Owls with 157 rebounds in 27 games. Coach Michael Donnelly begins his third season as the Owls' leader; he guided Southern Connecticut State to its first winning season since 2001-02 last year.

Scouting Adelphi
After earning an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament last year, the Panthers enter this season looking to improve on their 20-win campaign. Adelphi, which earned its 14th NCAA appearance in the last 18 years, finished with a 21-9 overall record and a 16-6 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference that earned the Panthers a share of the regular season title with Franklin Pierce. Led by senior Bradley Simpson, the Panthers return eight letter winners from last year's team while welcoming six new players to the roster. Simpson, who shot 59.5 per cent from the field last year, is the leading returning scorer after averaging 10.7 points per game last year. Adelphi Coach Dominick Savino is in his third season as the Panthers' leader; he has guided Adelphi to back-to-back 20-win seasons and a pair of appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

What's Ahead for Goldey-Beacom
Playing their third game in as many days, the Lightning will take a break from their regular season schedule on Monday night to travel to Towson University for a 7 p.m. exhibition game at the Towson Center Arena. The Tigers, who posted a 1-31 record last year, open their regular season on Friday night by traveling to the College of Charleston.
