Opening Tip-Off
After dropping a tough 72-64 decision against Towson University in an exhibition game on Monday night, the Lightning will open their home schedule on Saturday afternoon by welcoming Bentley University to the Joseph West Jones College Center. Opening tip-off between the Lightning and the Falcons is set for 1 p.m. and live stats for Saturday's game will be available on Goldey-Beacom's official athletics website,

Updating the Lightning
The Lightning will be looking to earn their first win of the season when they host Bentley University in the Jones Center. Currently 0-2 on the year, the Lightning opened the regular season last weekend by playing in the University of Bridgeport Men's Basketball Classic. After beginning the weekend with a 94-77 setback against Southern Connecticut State, the Lightning suffered a 68-46 loss against Adelphi on Sunday. The Lightning also played in an exhibition game at Towson University on Monday night, dropping a tough 72-64 decision against the Tigers. Sophomore guard Marcus Porter has picked up where he left off last year and leads the team with a 17.0 scoring average while junior guard A.J. Picard averaged 9.5 points per game. Picard also led the Lightning with a game-high 17 points against Towson on Monday night.
Scouting Bentley
Currently 1-2 on the season, the Falcons dropped a 63-50 decision against UMass-Lowell on Wednesday night at the Costello Gymnasium. Junior guard Jasper Grassa led the Falcons with 13 points and six rebounds while freshman forward Tyler McFarland contributed 10 points with six rebounds and two steals. After opening the season with a win over Caldwell, the Falcons have lost their last two games.
Home Sweet Home
The Lightning will play the first of 11 home games at the Joseph West Jones College Center on Saturday afternoon when they host Bentley University. Goldey-Beacom will be looking to continue its success at home after posting a 10-2 mark at the Jones Center last year. Since the start of the 2009-10 season, the Lightning have posted an impressive 34-9 (.791) mark in home games.
Lightning Picked to Finish Second in CACC South Division Preseason Poll
After winning their second consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division championship last year, the Lightning have been picked to finish second in the CACC's South Division by the league's head coaches. Philadelphia University, which earned 11 first place votes, was selected to win the South Division while Bloomfield College, which defeated Goldey-Beacom by a 62-50 margin in last year's CACC Championship Game, was voted as the favorite to win the North Division crown.
Picard and Porter to Serve as 2012-13 Captains
Junior guard A.J. Picard and sophomore guard Marcus Porter will serve as the Lightning's captains during the 2012-13 season, it has been announced by Coach Chuck Hammond. Picard was an honorable mention All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference pick last year after averaging 13.7 points per game while leading the team with an .801 free throw percentage. Meanwhile, Porter earned second team All-CACC notice as a freshman after leading the Lightning with a 16.7 scoring average last year. He also averaged 6.1 rebounds per game and ranked second on the team with 50 assists.
What's Ahead for Goldey-Beacom
The Lightning will wrap up their quick two-game homestand on Tuesday night when they welcome the University of the Sciences to the Jones Center for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener for both teams. Opening tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. or approximately 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game, which is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start. The Lightning swept the season series against the Devils last year, winning by a 52-49 margin at home before earning a 75-61 victory in Philadelphia.
