Goldey-Beacom Starts the New Year with a Win

After holding Wilmington to just 17 first half points and 18% shooting, the Goldey-Beacom College Women's Basketball Team cruised to a 59-42 victory on Tuesday night at the Pratt Center in New Castle, DE. 
 
GBC used a balanced attack as 3 players scored in double figures for the Lightning.  Irene Hudson led the way with 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Akilah Sewell kicked in 12 points.  Ashley Rosario had 11 points and 5 assists in the victory. 
 
WU led just once, 3-0, before the Lightning put up a 13-2 run to take control. GBC kept on rolling and extended the lead to 39-17 by halftime, its largest lead of the period. The margin didn't drop below 17 thereafter, peaking at 30 with a score of 55-25 with 8:50 remaining in the contest.  Wilmington used one last surge going on a 17-4 to close out the game.  Joune Reed was the leading scorer for the Wildcats with 10 points and Samantha Retas provided 10 rebounds in Wilmington's 7th straight defeat. 
 
The Lightning are back in action on Thursday, January 5 as they host Georgian Court in another CACC contest.  GBC defeated the Lions by a score of 74-59 in the 1st match up on December 8th.
