PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College women's cross country team, led by sophomore Liz Williams (18th) and freshman Symone Stewart (27th), placed 6th of seven teams as the host team of the Goldey-Beacom College Fall Classic at Carousel Park on a beautiful Sat. afternoon.

The Lightning finished with a team score of 156, beating out last-place Lancaster Bible by 56 points and only trailing fifth-place Community College of Baltimore County (Essex) by four points.

The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference was well-represented on the day with the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia claiming the team championship with a score of 49. Not far behind were two more CACC schools, Wilmington University (58) and Dominican (59), who took second and third, respectively.

Eastern University (81) was fourth, and Bloomfield College (145), also of the CACC, was fifth.

USP featured five runners in the top-15 overall while Wilmington had three runners in the top-10, including the top-two overall finishers, Whitney Hora (20:09) and Danielle Riley (20:29).

GBC, which finished 7th of eight teams in last year's race with a team score of 161, was sixth of seventh this year and lowered its team score from last year by five points.

Williams, who last year became the fastest female Lightning runner at Carousel with a time of 22:53, was just a shade under that record time this year, coming in at 23:23 to lead all GBC runners. Stewart was next with a time of 24:44 to place 27th.

Sophomore Alyssa Murray was the third GBC runner in at 27:51, good for 43rd place overall, while her sister, senior Brittney Murray, finished at 28:02 and took 45th. Freshman Carly Mitchell was not far behind, taking 48th place with a time of 28:59.

Next up for the Lightning is the Blue Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware at White Clay Creek Park in Newark, Del.
