Freshman forward Devonne Richardson and junior forward Terrence Parkes lead their respective teams into action Sat. against CACC newcomer, Concordia College.
PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College men's and women's basketball team will take on Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference newcomer, Concordia College (N.Y.) tomorrow, Sat., Jan. 9 at the Joseph West Jones Center. The women will tip-off at 1 p.m. and the men will follow at 3 p.m. Fans can follow the action via a live webcast on CACC.TV.
Women's Game Preview
Goldey-Beacom College and Concordia College square off for just the second-ever meeting between the two women's basketball programs.
This match-up marks a rematch of GBC's 2008-09 season opener in which the Lightning dominated at the Jones Center, 88-54. Senior forward Kellyn Nolan ('09) led the Lightning with 27 points as GBC started the season off with a bang.
This season, the Lightning come into this matchup with a 3-8 record after having their two-game win streak snapped on the road at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia on Thurs. night. After a frenetic finish in which the Lightning had three chances to tie the score and could not convert any of them, GBC lost 50-47 and fell to 0-4 to start Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.
Meanwhile, Concordia is winless through 13 overall games, including an 0-4 mark in conference to begin its first season as a member of the CACC.
The Clippers are led offensively by senior forward Dana Rommel (13.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg) and junior guard Shelley Monahan (11.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg).
For the Lightning, look out for red-shirt sophomore guard Jacinda Jones. She has scored in double-figures in five straight games, including three performances of 20 or more points. She is the reigning CACC player of the week, for the two week period ending Jan. 3 and has continued to be an offensive force for the Lightning.
Men's Game Preview
Saturday's matchup marks the first-ever meeting between these two men's basketball programs. Concordia College is in its first season as a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The Clippers previously belonged to the East Coast Conference.
They have not received a very kind welcoming to the league this basketball season, dropping their first four conference games, but have not fared well out of conference either, going winless through 13 games thus far.
Meanwhile, the Lightning are enjoying one of the best starts to the season that they have ever had, at 9-3. Included in that overall record is a perfect, 4-0 mark in CACC play. GBC's three losses have come by a combined eight points, with two of them coming to ranked opponents (No. 25 West Chester and No. 6 Kutztown).
The Lightning are led by two Delaware State transfers: senior guard Kyle White (21.8 ppg) and junior forward Terrence Parkes (18.6 ppg).
The Clippers feature 6-4 freshman forward, Argelix Gil (18.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg) and William Eason (10.6 ppg, 11.5 rpg).
