Wilmington, DE – Lightning Women's Basketball take on USP

The Goldey-Beacom College Women's Basketball team hosted their annual Think Pink Night where they faced off against the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia Devils.

The Devils took the scored the first bucket of the game and with the Lightning answering right back, on a three pointer from Janae Weldon (11 points, 2 steals on the night), the battle between the two rivals had begun.  The Devils took an initial lead after the start and would have to fight to keep it, as the Lightning continued to battle back.  The Lightning took the lead for a brief time with 5:26 on the clock, but the Devils grabbed it back, and entered halftime leading 20-19.

The Devils hit a surge in the beginning of the second half, nailing ten unanswered points.  The Lightning finally found their feet again and started to battle back slowly, eventually cutting the Devils lead down to three.  The Lightning would unfortunately see that work disappear as the Devils hit their free throws and take the game 46-36.

Arielle Alford hit the boards once again with 11 rebounds, 6 steals and 3 blocks, while Evebonee Acosta added 8 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Lightning will next travel to Post University this Saturday, February 21, 2009 for a 1:00pm game.
