Wilmington, DE – Lightning place three in double figures en route to CACC win

 

Three Lightning women's basketball players hit double figures on their way to the team's second CACC win this season over Georgian Court University. 

 

The Lightning played an even keeled game with the visiting Lions to start the first half.  With the momentum of the game shifting into the Lightning's hands, they took the last lead of the game with 12:24 to go in the first half.  Holding the Lions to 35.3% shooting from the field in the first half, the Lightning headed into intermission with leading 38-33.

 

The Lightning kicked off the second half of the game stretching their lead to eleven points, within a matter of minutes.  The Lions climbed their way back into game with a series of layups and free throws, to close the margin to 2 points.  With the defensive moves of Arielle Alford and the offensive strike of the team, the Lightning pulled ahead in the final minutes to claim their second win over the Lions, 70-59.

 

Arielle Alford, just missing a triple-double, hits her second double-double this week with 12 points and 16 rebounds; she also added 7 assists, 1 steal and 1 block.  Kellyn Nolan joined contributed 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Janae Weldon led the Lightning in points with 22 and added on 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. 

 

The Lightning will next travel to Holy Family University on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 for a 6:00pm game.
