Wilmington, DE – Lightning play hard but fall to Caldwell in their first CACC game

The Lightning hosted Caldwell College this past Saturday evening to open CACC play for the 2008-2009 season.  Even though Goldey-Beacom put three players in double figures led by Adrian Miles with 21 points, the Lightning dropped their 08-09 CACC opener to the Caldwell College Cougars 83-71.  The Lightning was not able to find a consistent rhythm in the first half, shooting only 40.9% from the field (9-22) and 44.4% from the foul line (4-9).  This plus the fact that the Cougars shot 50% from the field (12-24) and 90.9% from the foul line (10-11), saw the Lightning trail by 12 at half time, 36-24.

Along with Miles' 21 points, the Lightning received contributions from Steve Cooper (11 points, 3 rebounds), Azeez Ellegood (10 points, 4 assists), and Darrell Johnson (9 points, 4 assists 2 steals).  Despite these contributions and a late second half surge, the Lightning was unable to overcome the 12-point half time deficit, and fell to Caldwell 83-71.

The Lightning will next travel to Chestnut Hill College on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 8:00pm.
