Lakewood, NJ – Lady Lightning snag first CACC win of the season

The Lightning women's basketball team traveled to Lakewood, New Jersey on Tuesday evening to tip off against Georgian Court University.  The Lady Lightning saw the Georgian Court University Lions jump to a 14-4 lead in less than 7 minutes.  With free throw shooting at 91.7% (11-12) the Lady Lightning helped themselves right back into the ball game with a 10-2 scoring run.    With 5:35 left in the first half, the Lightning were able take the lead.  They fought off a late first half surge by the Lions to take a one-point lead at the half, 31-30.

The second half was a even game for the first ten minutes.  A Janae Weldon 3-pointer with 10:27 remaining, gave the Lady Lightning the lead for good, as they secured their first CACC win of the season, 61-53.  The Lightning found contributions from Weldon (17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals), Ashley Steele 13 points (12 points from beyond the arch), Kellyn Nolan (9 points, 7-8 from the line), and Samantha Sanchez (8 points, 8 rebounds). 

The Lightning will next travel to Chestnut Hill College on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 6:00pm.
