Steve Golt joined Goldey-Beacom's golf team prior to the 2021-22 season looking to get more out of what already is a talented group.  With that accomplished, he looks to the 2022-23 campaign as another opportunity to take even more steps forward in hopes of bringing the program back to the national stage.

Golt's first season as head coach was every bit the success those around the program were anticipating.  After finishing tied for the top spot at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship, Goldey-Beacom qualified for the NCAA Regional as a team for the first time since 2012.  The squad closed fifth in the East Region and finished with at least a share of the best score four times with Hunter McGee, Pablo Saenz Avila and Camilo Samur each named All-CACC.

Golt in 2020-21 served as head coach at Saint Mark’s High School in Wilmington, his alma mater, after being the program’s assistant coach the previous two campaigns.  That season witnessed the Spartans going 6-0-1 over their last seven matches to end the season 9-4-1, their best record since 2009.  Saint Mark’s sent six of its eight golfers to the Delaware state tournament with Will Ralsten ending 38th out of 94 players.

Prior to that, Golt was the head coach at Delaware Military Academy in Wilmington from 2008-13, compiling a 48-48 record.  He also was the softball coach at DMA from 2014-15.

Golt since 2003 has served as a golf instructor, obtaining a Level II teaching certificate that year with the United States Golf Teaching Federation.  He won club championships in 2003 at Back Creek Golf Club, in 2004 at Frog Hollow Golf Club and in 2009 at Deerfield Golf Club.  He also has participated in the Delaware Amateur Championship and the Delaware Open Championship.

“Coach Golt’s success as a high school boys’ golf coach, especially most recently at Saint Mark’s, made him an exciting prospect right away,” Director of Athletics Jeremy Benoit said.  “He clearly has a bit of talent in the world of golf but, most importantly, his personality meshes perfectly with our guys.  I look forward to seeing his leadership take this already incredibly talented roster to unprecedented heights.”

“I've coached high school golf for nine seasons and have been patiently waiting for an opportunity to coach at the collegiate level,” Golt said.  “I was recently given that opportunity at Goldey-Beacom College and I'm excited to accept the position as Head Golf Coach.  The staff at GBC is invested in their sports programs and I'm anxious to set a new standard with the golf team.  Our preparation, attitude and effort will be on display each day as we set our goals to compete and be successful at the highest level.  Thank you GBC for the opportunity and I look forward to being the best coach and mentor that I can be.  Go Lightning!!!”
