Andrew Shearer, one of the most energetic and spirited coaches in any sport, has brought a sense of enthusiasm to the Goldey-Beacom cross country programs and hopes this will continue in 2022 as he embarks on his sixth season as head coach.

Shearer also is entering his fourth season as the men's and women's track & field head coach, having seen two of his athletes win individual conference titles. The second season saw the 2021 men's team close fourth at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship after ending ninth in 2019.  The women's unit amassed a sixth-place showing after closing 12th in its debut campaign.

The women's track & field squad in 2022 ended sixth at the CACC Championship for a second straight year and got a huge boost with freshman Karla Chardon winning the javelin with a provisional qualifying distance for the NCAA Championship.  The men's unit closed fifth and continues to see a multitude of different athletes scoring, showing the team's overall balance.

One of the department's most liked people, his affable personality and ability to work great with everyone has permeated throughout his programs.  This played a huge role in the cross country teams combining for three CACC Sportsmanship Awards.

The women's cross country unit in 2021 made immense strides by closing sixth at the CACC Championship for its best showing since 2003.  The men's squad ended fourth at the CACC Championship for its best finish in six years and also gained a 17th-place showing at the NCAA East Regional, its best output since 2014.

Shearer spent three seasons as head coach at Middletown High School, leading the team workouts in addition to interaction with both the Delaware state association and the school’s athletic department.  He also was an assistant coach at Red Lion Christian Academy from 2010-11, leading all working and individual training.

Shearer has been Level 1 certified in coaching by USA Track & Field since 2013, receiving his cross country coaching certification in 2019 and Level 2 certification in USATF Endurance Coaching in 2021.  Shearer also served as coach for the Middletown Athletic Club’s Couch to 5K Program, was an advisor for the Healthy Kids Running Series in Middletown for five years and is a founding member of the Middletown Athletic Club.

He has competed in 29 marathons, including three Boston Marathons.  Shearer since 2000 has served as president of Royal Broadcasting, Inc., which owns an AM/FM combination station in Virginia and his outfit provides consulting services, programming, marketing and staff training.  He previously was vice president and general manager of WCOJ radio in Philadelphia from 1997-99.

“I couldn't be more excited and optimistic about the future of Goldey-Beacom cross country,” Shearer said.  “The potential to create a solid running program as well as work with student-athletes who also strive for academic success is tremendous and a tremendous honor.”

Shearer graduated Lock Haven University in 1985 with a B.A. in Journalism/Mass Communications.
