A key contributor off the bench for Coach Chuck Hammond and the Lightning men's basketball team, freshman guard Donte McGill averaged 15.8 points per game while appearing in five contests during the month of December.
In addition, he made 45.1 per cent of his field goal attempts while connecting on an outstanding 85.7 per cent of his free throws.
After scoring 19 points in a 92-79 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Concordia on Dec. 7, the Newark, Del. native erupted for a season-high 21 points at Philadelphia University on Dec. 14. He made 7 of 14 shots from the floor against the Rams and was 6-for-7 from the foul line en route to earning CACC Rookie of the Week notice.
McGill contributed 15 points in a Dec. 18 loss against Chestnut Hill before leading Goldey-Beacom with 17 points off the bench at Lock Haven on Dec. 31.
McGill, who has played in all 11 games this season, is tied for the team lead by averaging 12.0 points per game. He also leads the team and ranks second in the CACC with an .896 free throw percentage.
