Zach Kancher will enter his third year at Goldey-Beacom in 2010-11 as assistant coach to Jen Carleton. As the program's recruiting coordinator, Kancher is responsible for the overall strategy and execution of the program’s recruiting efforts.
An outstanding evaluator of talent, Kancher specializes in targeting under-recruited or "sleeper" student-athletes. Kancher guided the efforts in landing three impact freshmen for the 2009-2010 season who helped contribute to a 17-win season and trip to the CACC tournament Semi-Final game. In addition to his recruiting duties, Kancher is involved in live scouting, video breakdown, generating scouting reports, and assisting in player development.
Before he came to GBC, in 2007-08, Kancher served as head women’s basketball coach at Division III College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale (Bronx), New York. He led Mount Saint Vincent to a 21-7 overall record and a 14-4 mark in Skyline Conference play, both school records, and earned the program’s first ever berth in the ECAC post-season tournament. The season was also highlighted by the development of two All-Conference performers. In addition to his coaching duties, he was the Assistant Athletic Director for Operations/Facilities, overseeing logistical and on-site administrative duties for the CMSV athletic department.
Prior to his time at Mount Saint Vincent, Kancher spent four years at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pa., serving as the head girls’ basketball coach for the final two. During that time, he resurrected a failing program and finished with a 33-16 record, including a record of 22-6 in 2006-07. He led Shipley to both the Friends Schools League finals and Pennsylvania Independent School State Tournament championship. Additionally, he served as an Assistant to the Athletic Director, was the head coach for the JV baseball and JV girls’ tennis teams and taught Physical Education. Zach also coached at the youth AAU level for three years, two with the Delmont Blaze and one with the Comets.
A Philadelphia native, Kancher is earning his Master's of Sport Administration from Canisius College and is a 2003 graduate of The George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in English.
