PIKE CREEK, Del. – Carly Mitchell and Symone Stewart, both from Elkton High School in Maryland, have committed to Goldey-Beacom College and will compete for the Lightning women's cross country team in the Fall 2010.
Carly Mitchell
Mitchell, who's mother is a GBC alum, competed in track events such as the 800m, 1-mile and 2-mile. Her best times include a 3:02 in the 800m at regionals, 7:31 in the mile and 17:21 in the 2-mile. She competed in the 4x400 relay as well.
Though she has never ran cross country before, Conley is relying on her to be a big component of the team's success this Fall.
“She has a good work ethic and plans to run a lot this summer,” Conley said.
Conley is also excited about Mitchell in the 800m event.
“Every time she ran the 800m this past season, she ran her personal best. The next time she runs the 800m will be after a full cross country season. I expect her to be 2:50 or better.
