CALDWELL, N.J. – Janae Weldon of the women's basketball team and Kyle White and Terrence Parkes of the men's basketball team each earned a spot on their respective Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-Tournament team, announced on Sat. afternoon immediately following both of the final games.
Goldey-Beacom College was the only school in the conference to have both its men and women's team advance to the semifinal round this year. The women's semifinal berth was their first since 2006-07. The men earned their fourth consecutive playoff berth, second straight semifinal appearance, and first-ever showing in the finals.
Weldon, a junior guard and co-captain on head coach Jen Carleton's squad, helped lead the Lightning to their second win over Philadelphia in a week to advance to the semifinals where they fell to Nyack, 71-55. At Philadelphia in the tournament quarterfinals, Weldon scored 16 points to go with seven rebounds, six assists and two steals in an impressive Lightning victory. She went on to score a team-high 15 points and pitch in three rebounds, one assist and one steal in the loss to the eventual champion, Nyack.
Parkes, a 6-6 junior forward, provided superb outside shooting and a strong rebounding presence for the Lightning all throughout the tournament. In the three tournament games, Parkes averaged 16.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per-game. He tallied 18 points and nine rebounds in the semifinal win over Bloomfield.
Senior guard Kyle White had arguably one of the greatest all-time performances in the CACC Tournament, averaging 26.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per-game and leading his team to the school's first-ever appearance in the CACC Finals.
First against Wilmington in the quarterfinals, White scored 21 second-half points to finish with 27 for the day and send his team to the semifinals. Then, in an epic battle with the conference player of the year, Gage Daye, White got the last laugh as he hit the game-winning shot with just under a second left in regulation. He finished that game with 30 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals. White then scored 21 points to go with five rebounds, three assists and a steal in the finals against Felician, but the Lightning fell short, 84-79.
