Insurance Information
Dear Student Athletes and Parents:

It is an institutional requirement for all student-athletes to carry active primary insurance, whether that student-athlete is domestic or international. The insurance policy that the College owns is an umbrella policy, which means it is intended to augment a student-athlete’s personal primary coverage… not serve as their personal primary coverage.

This umbrella policy does not cover (1) injuries sustained prior to the athlete attending the college (2) medical expenses incurred due to sickness or illness (3) injury not directly related to official practice play, or travel for the sport

A student-athlete cannot allow their coverage to lapse or be canceled during their period of participation, which is inclusive of the entire academic year. For example, if you play a Fall sport and your season ends in November, you are required to continue your plan for the remainder of the academic year because you will still be participating in strength and conditioning and a Spring non-traditional season.

Domestic students (current US residents) who are currently uninsured, please contact the athletic training staff directly for assistance in obtaining a policy/plan.

International students (excluding Puerto Rico) are required to purchase insurance through one of the options listed and linked below. International traveler’s insurance or other insurance policies submitted to the athletic training staff that are not any of the options below will be rejected. We have identified the below options for international student-athletes because, while they do not have any specific affiliation with the College, we have certified that they have the appropriate coverage levels.

BMI – ISP Online Enrollment (Select Goldey-Beacom College Athletes from the drop-down menu)
  • Select from any of the 6 options (Basic plans provide less coverage, Elite plans provide more extensive coverage)

Goldey-Beacom College | School Insurance Requirements (internationalstudentinsurance.com)

Student Secure Insurance, WorldTrips Student Secure insurance, Student secure elite, budget, smart and select, cheapest health insurance for international students in usa (americanvisitorinsurance.com)
Must be the Select or Elite plan

The student-athlete is responsible to report ALL injuries to the Athletic Training Staff as soon as possible. In order to maximize the probability of insurance coverage, the athlete will at NO time seek outside medical attention for an athletic related injury without prior consultation from the Athletic Training Staff except in the case of an emergency.  In the case of HMO policies, every effort will be made to follow the specific referral procedures for the student-athlete. This may require the student-athlete to return home for an appointment with HMO participating physicians.

Please reach out to the Athletic Training Staff directly with any questions or concerns.
