Lightning Mascot

Lightning Mascot

The Lightning "Bolt" mascot, after years of collecting dust while buried in a storage closet, made its triumphant return on March 6, 2011 at the women's basketball "Selection Sunday" party in the Joseph West Jones Center gym.  Then freshman softball player Ashley Zaccaria did the honor of wearing the Lightning Bolt suit as the women's basketball team, coaches, and fans gathered in the gym to watch the NCAA Tournament selection show.

Zaccaria broke out the Lightning mascot suit again just days later in Waltham, MA at the Lightning's Women's Basketball NCAA East Region Tournament quarterfinal against Holy Family. Goldey-Beacom College fans definitely could feel the electricity in the gym with the Lightning mascot in the stands.

Thus it was decided that the "Bolt" mascot would be a fixture at Lightning sporting events.  The GBC athletic staff selected freshman Daniel Brennan to be the 2011-12 mascot, it was announced on October 4, 2011. That night, "Bolt" helped spark a 3-1 Lightning volleyball win over the U. of the District of Columbia in Brennan's first appearance.

Brennan, a Newark, DE native, served three years as the Howard High School of Technlogy (Wilmington, DE) "Wildcat." Lightning fans can overlook the fact that he was once the same mascot as the school's crosstown rival, Wilmington (DE) University, because Brennan picked up a wealth of experience in the process.  Starting with his sophomore year, he took part in entertaining the crowd, cheering with the cheerleaders and rooting on his school's athletes.

An Information Technology major, Brennan looks forward to his future career as a software developer.  In the meantime, he would like to keep doing what he loves - keeping crowds happy and entertained.
