Reighly Melochick Picked to CACC Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll

Goldey-Beacom freshman Reighly Melochick (Pottsville, PA) lit up the scoreboard Saturday in the second half and today was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll.

Melochick had a game to remember Saturday at Wilmington (DE), canning four 3-pointers in the second half as part of her season-best 20-point effort in Goldey-Beacom's big 75-66 victory. Melochick, who scored 18 points in the second half, shot 7-of-11 overall from the floor and hauled in four rebounds.

She also hit four 3-pointers Wednesday at Holy Family, ending with 14 points, two assists and two steals. Melochick closed the week averaging 17.0 points, shot 12-of-18 from the floor and 8-of-13 from 3-point range.

For a squad that has received great play from its underclassmen, Melochick certainly has done her part this season. She is tied for seventh in the CACC with 1.8 three-pointers per game (30 total), sixth with a .390 three-point percentage, 13th with a .446 shooting percentage and 39th with 8.9 points per contest.

To explain how bright the future is for the Lightning, the squad is averaging 67.1 points per game with 43.5 of that coming from freshmen. Fifty-one of GBC's 75 points on Saturday were scored by freshmen.

The Lightning (6-11, 5-3 CACC) sit fourth in the CACC South Division with the top four teams in each of the two divisions advancing to the conference tournament.

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against Chestnut Hill as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. The women's game begins at 6:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at 8:00 pm.
