WILMINGTON, Del. – Senior defender
Chris Brake (Concord H.S./Wilmington, Del.) and junior defender
Daniel Bennett (Arthur P. Schalick H.S./Pittsgrove, N.J.) have been selected to serve as the team captains for the 2014 Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer season, it has been announced by Coach
Ryan Dixon.
Brake and Bennett will be serving as captains for the second consecutive season.
A three-year letter winner for the Lightning, Brake has played in 38 career games and made 36 starts, including all 15 games last year. He recorded the lone assist of his college career as a sophomore against Washington Adventist.
"Chris brings a lot to the team," Coach Dixon said. "He expects everyone to bring high intensity to every practice and game. He drives the guys to want more and not expect anything but their best effort."
Meanwhile, Bennett has started all 35 games of his college career and has scored two goals. Both of his goals were scored last season as he recorded a goal in a 4-2 loss against Lock Haven and the Lightning's lone goal in a 1-1 tie against Georgian Court.
"Dan leads the defense with his work rate and attitude while on the field," said Dixon. "He is expected to be a shutdown back for us this year."
Led by Brake and Bennett, the Lightning will open their season this weekend with a pair of matches. After hosting Chowan University on Saturday, the Lightning will face Washington Adventist University at home on Sunday afternoon.
