NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Freshman guard
Donte McGill (Mont Clare Academy/Newark, Del.) of Goldey-Beacom College has been named as the recipient of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week award for the week ending Feb. 2, it has been announced by CACC officials.
It is the fourth time this season McGill has earned the award. In addition, it marks the fourth straight week a Goldey-Beacom player has earned the weekly honor. While McGill has received the accolade in three of the last four weeks, freshman guard
Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (Hodgson Vo-Tech H.S./New Castle, Del.) was named as the CACC's Rookie of the Week last week.
In guiding the Lightning to a split of their two games last week, McGill averaged 23.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 62.5 per cent from the field. He also made 10 of 11 free throws while adding three assists and two steals.
McGill led the Lightning to an 82-67 victory over Georgian Court by scoring a season-high 29 points. He made 10 of 12 shots from the floor, including a perfect 6-for-6 effort from three-point range, while making three of four free throws. In addition, he added two rebounds with two assists and two steals.
In the Lightning's 82-66 loss at Post on Saturday, McGill added a 17-point performance that included a 7-for-7 showing from the free throw line along with a season-high eight rebounds.
The Lightning's leading scorer with a 14.5 average, McGill also leads the CACC by making 89.1 per cent of his free throw attempts. He has also scored at least 10 points in each of the last seven games, including three 20-point efforts.
Led by McGill, the Lightning will finish their brief two-game road trip on Wednesday evening when they visit Holy Family for an 8 p.m. CACC South Division game. The Lightning, who are 8-11 overall, are currently in fouth place in the South Division with a 6-7 conference record.
