NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman forward
Omar Hernandez (Avon Grove H.S./West Grove, Pa.) of Goldey-Beacom College has been selected as the winner of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week award for the week ending Oct. 5, it has been announced by CACC officials.
In addition, senior forward
Luiz Ristow (Joinville, Brazil) was named as an honorable mention selection for the CACC Player of the Week accolade.
Hernandez led the Lightning to a 4-3 victory over Georgian Court last week by scoring two goals with an assist. He tied the match at 2-2 in the 31st minute when he scored on a header. After earning an assist on a goal by Ristow that gave Goldey-Beacom a 3-2 advantage, he tallied the game-winning goal with 6:46 remaining by heading in a pass from Ristow.
In 10 matches this season, Hernandez has scored three goals with two assists.
Meanwhile, Ristow earned notice from the CACC after scoring two goals and adding two assists in the Lightning's two matches last week. He scored twice in the 4-3 victory over Georgian Court while adding an assist before recording another assist in a 4-1 loss against Dominican.
Ristow, who is the only Goldey-Beacom player to start all 10 matches this season, leads the Lightning with seven goals and three assists.
Led by Hernandez and Ristow, the Lightning will host East Stroudsburg on Thursday, Oct. 9 before welcoming Felician College to Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field on Saturday, Oct. 11 for their annual Homecoming match.
